F. R. to the E.

The timed writing we took was... interesting. When Mr. Kunkle first announced that we had to find our own passage in The Great Gatsby I was kind of worried. I have read everything required and all, that wasn't the problem. I just feel more comfortable having a specific prompt to write about. Even if it's a crappy one, at least I know everyone else has to put up with it too.

After I started scanning the book though I began to realize that it was a rather easy FRE. Fitzgerald has literally littered The Great Gatsby with a multitude of stylistic and rhetorical strategies. It didn't take me long to find the passage I choose which happened to be the one where Nick meets Gatsby for the first time at one of Gatsby's parties. In the passage Fitzgerald used a combination of detail, 'shock', and dialogue. I felt like he blended it in extremely well and it helped to enhance the book and draw the reader in.
